Sandi Rabas
Sandi Rabas, pianist, began playing
honky-tonk piano on the knees of her grandmother,
who was playing for the Methodist church revivals.
Miss Rabas began serious study at the age of three
and began accompaniment study at the age of ten for
her mother, an opera singer. Living in Billings
since 1978, Sandi has been church organist and
coordinator of music ministries since 1979.
As staff
pianist for Rimrock opera, she has played for The
Barber of Seville, Madama Butterfly, The Merry
Widow, Carmen, Tosca, La Traviata, Die Fledermaus,
Così fan tutte and Girl of the Golden West. Amongst
her opera duties, Ms. Rabas plays in the orchestra,
augmenting the sound of different instruments on an
electric keyboard, or she can be seen in the balcony
at the Alberta Bair Theater, or running the
Supertitle machine. Sandi has also played outreach
opera's in the community, including Madama
Butterfly, The Telephone, Gourmet Dinners, Laurel
Ford Christmas, RO’s general auditions, Met to
Broadway and The Night Harry Stopped Smoking school
tour. Ms. Rabas made her Opera Idaho debut, playing
concerts and the production of Madama Butterfly.
Sandi has also accompanied for Rimrock Opera Chorus
for Kids (R.O.C.K.); the year round chorus group for
singing kids. In July 2005, Ms. Rabas was the
accompanist for Rimrock opera's 'One Act' Festival,
playing all four one-act operas in one evening:
Sister Angelica, Impresario, The Hand of Bridge and
The old Maid and the Thief. She has a private piano
and accompaniment studio. She is married to Randy, a
letter carrier and organist. They have four children
and four grandchildren.
