Recent performances for
baritone Christopher Johnson have included EL
DANCAIRO in Carmen and ARALDO in Otello with Palm
Beach Opera, GUGLIELMO in Cosi fan tutte and SID in
Albert Herring with the Palm Beach Young Artist
Program, WILLIAM JENNINGS BRYAN in The Ballad of
Baby Doe with Intermountain Opera and FIGARO in Il
Barbiere di Siviglia with Rimrock Opera. Other roles
that Christopher has performed have included,
BELCORE in L'Elisir d' Amore, MORALES in Carmen,
SPRECHER in The Magic Flute, BILLY BIGELOW in
Carousel, BOB in The Old Maid and the Thief, the
SERGEANT in Manon Lescaut, and SAMUEL in The Pirates
of Penzance.
Christopher has performed with
companies and organizations such as Palm Beach
Opera, Intermountain Opera, Rimrock Opera, Bay View
Music Festival, Indiana University Opera Theater,
Billings Messiah Festival, Christ Church Cathedral
of Indianapolis, Yellowstone Chamber Players and
Encore Vocal Arts.
While a student at Indiana
University’s Jacobs School of Music, Christopher has
been seen as BREEDLEY in the collegiate premiere of
William Bolcom's A Wedding, GRAF DOMINIK in Richard
Strauss' ARABELLA, and the role of FERRANTE in a
premiere performance of scenes from the opera
Lorenzo de Medici by I.U. faculty member P.Q. Phan.
He was also selected to participate in a series of
masterclasses focusing on lieder with British
pianist Roger Vignoles. Christopher has also been
featured in masterclasses with Thomas Hampson,
Sanford Sylvan, Virginia Zeani, Dr. Robert White,
and Enza Ferrari.
An avid concert performer,
Christopher has been featured in works such as Ein
deutsches Requiem (Brahms), Messiah (Händel),
Fantasia on Christmas Carols (Vaughan Williams), In
Terra Pax (Finzi), Massin G (Schubert), Mass for the
Children (Rutter), and Celestial Country (Ives).
A native of Billings, Montana he received his B.A.
in Music From Montana State University and is now
completing his M.M. in Vocal Performance from the
Jacobs School, where he studies with baritone
Andreas Poulimenos.
Upcoming engagements
include SHARPLESS in Madama Butterfly with Montana
Lyric Opera (Missoula, MT), DANILO in The Merry
Widow with Rimrock Opera and the baritone solo in
Ein deutsches Requiem by Brahms with the Billings
Symphony.
