Career highlights have included Marcello in LA BOHÈME with Opera Idaho and
Opera San Jose; the title role in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO with West Bay Opera,
Opera San Jose, and Sacramento Opera Theatre; Guglielmo in COSÌ FAN TUTTE
with Sacramento Opera Theatre; Papageno in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE with Apollo Opera
and Opera San Jose; the title role in MACBETH with West Bay Opera; the title
role in the West Coast premiere of Vaughan Williams’s PILGRIM’S PROGRESS
with Trinity Lyric Opera; and the title role in DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER, the
title role in DON GIOVANNI, Renato in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, Scarpia in
TOSCA, Valentin in FAUST, Escamillo in CARMEN, Count Di Luna in IL TROVATORE,
Silvio in PAGLIACCI , Alfio in CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA, Zurga in LES PÊCHEURS
DE PERLES, John Proctor in THE CRUCIBLE, Malatesta in DON PASQUALE, and
Falke in DIE FLEDERMAUS with Opera San Jose. Concert highlights have
included baritone soloist in MESSIAH with the Auburn Symphony; Saint-Saens’s
CHRISTMAS ORATORIO with the Jackson Community Symphony; and an OPERA CONCERT
with the Monterey Opera Symphony.
In 2001, Mr. Detwiler was awarded a study
grant from the Wagner Society of Northern California and participated in the
Emerging Singers Program of Washington D.C.'s Wagner Society. He won the
Opera by the Bay Competition in 2001, was a Pacific Regional Finalist in the
Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for both 2001 and 2005, and
participated as a contestant in Plácido Domingo's Operalia Competition in
Madrid, Spain.
