Matthew Haney
Stage Director Matthew Haney is establishing himself as an innovative voice on the operatic stage. In his recent production of Aida with Rimrock Opera, he received acclaim for his “cleverly designed and visually fresh productions.” Serving as the principal stage director for Rimrock Opera for the last 3 seasons, Mr. haney has also created memorable productions of Traviata, Rigoletto and The Crucible. Recent projects include a debut with Winter Opera St. Louis, where Haney directed L’Amico Fritz and The Magic Flute at the University of Central Missouri.In addition to his success in directing grand opera, Mr. Haney is gaining recognition for his inventive, bold and moving productions of new works. Haney directed the world premieres of White Horizon and of The Nightingale and the Rosebush for the Helianthus Opera Project, and The Hour Glass for the Butler University Opera. Recent seasons have included work on productions for the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Mobile Opera, The University of Kansas, William Jewell College, and the Music Academy International in Mezzano, Italy. Mr. Haney has worked on productions of Nixon in China, Norma, The Rake’s Progress, Tosca, Suor Angelica, Die Zauberflöte, Der Fliegende Holländer, and Dido and Aeneas.Mr. Haney is receiving his D.M.A. in Vocal Performance from the University of Kansas, his M.M. in Vocal Performance from the University of Missouri, and his B.M. in Vocal Performance from John Brown University. ©2000-2015 Rimrock Opera Company.
