Jan
Michael Kliewer
was an assistant professor of music at Northwest College from
1990 to 2015. In addition to teaching voice and
choral music, Jan taught music theory, double
bass, and conducted the Northwest Civic
Orchestra for 10 years. During his last 15 years
at Northwest, Jan produced and directed over a
dozen operas and musicals.
Kliewer is an
active Baritone soloist and has appeared with
orchestras throughout the region including the
Billings Symphony, Wyoming Symphony, Helena
Symphony, and Bozeman Symphony among others. His
opera and musical theatre credits include La
Traviata, La Boheme, Sweeney Todd, Man of La
Mancha, Madame Butterfly, and Elixir of Love and
premiered Nosferatu with the Rimrock Opera.
Jan received a BM in voice from Cleveland
State University and an MA in conducting from
the
University of Missouri at Kansas City. Jan grew
up in California and after many moves, landedon
the east coast as a young adult. He subsequently
has been moving back west, but is happily
stalled in Powell, Wyoming.
Jan has a partner of
40 years in Lucinda Kliewer, two
children,
and three grandchildren.
