soprano, made her Rimrock Opera debut as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, last
year. She has earned rave reviews with her spirited interpretations of the
lyric coloratura repertoire. This Mexican soprano’s roles include Susanna in
Le Nozze di Figaro, Norina in Don Pasquale, Adele in Die
Fledermaus, Valencienne in The Merry Widow, Rosina in The Barber
of Seville, Adina in The Elixir of Love, Gilda in Rigoletto,
Nannetta in Falstaff, Despina in Cosi Fan Tutte, the title role in
Manon, and Clorinda in La Cenerentola. Other roles she has
performed include Musetta in La Bohème, Leila in The Pearl Fishers,
Tuptim in The King and I, Mimi in La Bohème , the Third Knitter in
A Game of Chance, Monica in The Medium, Marguerite in Faust,
and Pamina in The Magic Flute.
Ms Rubalcava performed the role of
Rosina in The Barber of Seville with the Israel Vocal Arts in Tel Aviv,
Israel and also had the opportunity to perform Donna Anna in Rimrock Opera’s
production of Don Giovanni. Equally comfortable on the concert stage she
has sung Orff’s Carmina Burana and Schubert’s Mass in g minor with
The Santa Clara Chorale and she has sung excerpts from Don Giovanni with
The San Jose Symphony. Other concert work includes Mozart’s Missa Solemnis
at the annual St Joseph concert with the San Jose State University Symphony, and
Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the San Jose Symphony and
Cleveland Ballet.
Ms. Rubalcava had the distinct honor of singing Mozart’s
Requiem at San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral with Maestro George Cleve with the
Midsummer Mozart Festival in 2002, and 2003, to honor those lost on September
11, 2001. She most recently had the opportunity to sing at Villamontalvo with
the Midsummer Mozart Festival as a last minute substitute for Frederica von
Stade. Miss Rubalcava has been a finalist in The Palm Beach Vocal Competition, a
three times NATS winner in her division, recipient of The Sturgeon Fellowship,
The Friends of Music scholarship, Eleanor McKnight-Haines scholarship, and
National Hispanic Scholarship. Sandra holds a Master’s Degree from The
Manhattan School of Music
