Daren
Small
Mr. Small, a Billings native, is a distinguished
bass-baritone soloist throughout the region. He is
honored and humbled to appear on the ABT stage once
again. He made his soloist debut at Montana State
University during their performance of Mozart’s
Requiem. Since then, he has performed as a soloist
in many venues. His most recent appearances include:
Aïda, Ragtime, Rigoletto, Tosca, La Bohème, The
Impresario, Gianni Schicchi, Miss Saigon, and
Handel’s Messiah. Small has also appeared at Opera
on the Avenue, Opera at the Bay, and Auction of
Arias. In addition, he sings with the High Plains
Chamber Singers.
Small earned his B.A. in
Music Education and is Master of Education degrees
from Montana State University where he developed his
passion for teaching. Now he is the Director of
Choirs at Billings Senior High School where he
conducts five curricular choirs and two
extra-curricular ensembles. He is an active member
of the American Choral Directors’ Association,
NAfME, and the VoiceCare Network. He has also served
as the Chorus Master for the Rimrock Opera. Many
reputable soloists and educators have and continue
to influence his career including Dennis Rupp,
Lowell Hickman, Dr. Jon Harney, Dr. Kirk Aamot, and
Dr. Steven Hart.
